The play "Antuntun" was based on the motives from the text "How Antuntun Lives", written by Grigor Vitez, and directed by Tamara Kučinović. The project came to life from an international collaboration with Rider University from New Jersey, USA, and was funded by: New Jersey State Council for the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts and Central State Office for Croats Abroad, with the purpose of presenting the art of Croatian puppetry and public performances of Croatian cultural heritage that´s intended for American and Croatian-American audiences. As a member of the artistic team and performing ensemble, Mario Tomašević designs and makes a puppet, puppet costumes, animator costumes and set design for the play. He is also one of the four performers (animators) in this puppet show that 72 alternately act and animate the main character, supporting characters and animate the set design. The play deals with the theme of "diversity" by following the unusual main character Antuntun, who is different in comparrison with the rest of society. Diversity as a topic is still very relevant today and the artistic team have choosen to incorporate it into this play with a message that every child, no matter how different, in modern society of 2020 where technology and social media rule every day life, should be accepted. This thesis also research and examines costume design for puppetry in general, and its comparative analysis with costume design for drama/opera/dance/film, including large number of puppetry techniques such as: hand puppets, table puppets, stick puppets, marionette puppets and shadow theater puppets, using the “ Costume Design Matrix” by Jasmina Pacek as a theoretical framework.
