Abstract (english) Master's thesis entitled Morphin’ – The Body as an Algorithm analyses the development of a solo performance Morphin’. The working process started in October 2021 and ended in September 2022. The first phase of the work consisted of collecting data on the impact of social media on today’s society and their political power. The research was focused on TikTok, an online platform where an entertaining content is displayed in the form of short videos. Some known categories include dance sequences, tutorials, stunts or comedy sketches. The user indicates his/her interest in the content by scrolling; sliding over the screen of his cell phone with a thumb. An internet algorithm simultaneously records the category of the video and the length of the user’s viewing, so that it can offer similar or different content again and again in accordance with these parameters. Since the war in Ukraine started in 2022, the abundance of random material was accompanied by actual war footages, presidential speeches and reports on the state of warfare. One flick of the thumb separated a battlefield in Kiev from a nightclub in San Francisco, some Ukrainian soldier from Batman, and a motivational speech by some influencer from a political speech delivered by Vladimir Putin. An average viewer has become equally exposed to any kind of content, regardless of his/her age or level of education. The one is not invited to critically approach the subject he/she is viewing, but is reduced to passive consumption of what he/she is offered. If we try to imagine the algorithmic content as a kind of psychological profile, and TikTok as its creator, we might as well witness the formation of some digital personality. A personality which knows no moral boundaries and makes war, entertainment and everyday content equally relevant. The aim of performance was to use the body and speech as instruments of an internet algorithm. This experiment was first developed as a digital installation which was designed for a masterclass called Creative visual arts project. The class was a part of Digital Interactive Arts MA study at The Faculty of Theatre and Film in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The author attended one semester of the study during Erasmus student exchange program. Later, the movements and vocal elements from the videos were fragmented and cut up, generating a series of choreographic sequences which were interconnected to a thirty-minute performance. •
